Incoterms, “shipment delivery” means the same thing all over the world.

The international shipping community recognized the need for a uniform set of rules several years ago and entrusted that responsibility to the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).

Since 1936, the ICC has maintained a list of definitions and guidelines that set the standards for international shipping. Incoterms set clear burdens of responsibility for sellers and carriers and for determining associated costs and risks.
The ICC conducts periodic updates of Incoterms, to that the rules are still relevant and accurately reflect current shipping practices.

Most recently, Incoterms rules were updated effective January 1, 2011, when the number of rules were reduced from 13 to 11, and were placed in two separate categories, rules for any mode or modes of transportation and rules for sea and inland waterway transportation.
Incoterms Rules for any Mode or Modes of Transport:

     EXW  Ex works
     FCA   Free carrier
     CPT   Carriage paid to
CIP    Carriage and insurance paid to
     DAT   Delivered at terminal
     DAP  Delivered at place
     DDP  Delivered duty paid

Incoterms Rules for Sea and Inland Waterway Transport

     FAS   Free Alongside Ship
     FOB   Free on Board
     CFR   Cost and Freight
     CIF     Cost Insurance and Freight
